The wait is over! After a long hiatus, our indoor volunteer program returns to the Klein Center for Jobs and Justice beginning April 1, 2023. Sign up is now open for daily shifts between April and June, 2023.
Healthy Corners is a pioneering venture that is sustainably expanding healthy food access in DC’s food deserts. We deliver fresh produce and healthy snacks to corner stores in DC’s low-income communities, offering produce to corner stores at wholesale prices and in smaller quantities than a conventional distributor. The stores then sell the produce at below-market prices, making it an affordable option for the consumer. This venture is made possible through a mix of earned revenue, philanthropic support, and a significant partnership with DC Health.
Instead of just giving away food, we have demonstrated significant demand in low-income communities for our fresh, affordable food deliveries to corner stores.
We’re regularly developing new products that encourage healthy eating on the go, including fresh-cut fruit, scratch-cooked versions of popular snacks and healthy, ready-to-eat meals packed with wholesome ingredients.
We also provide stores with marketing support and technical assistance while offering nutrition education sessions and cooking demonstrations that get customers excited about changing their shopping habits. Finally, as we prove to store owners that selling healthy food is good business, we then help them transition to receiving deliveries from larger, for-profit wholesalers.
