Giving matters. DC Central Kitchen relies on the generosity of our community to carry out our work year-round. We also know that the challenges of hunger and poverty are too great to be solved by any one organization. That’s why we spend each Giving Tuesday lifting up high-performing partner organizations that are essential parts of making our city a healthier, fairer, more just place for everyone. This Giving Tuesday (and any other time of year), we hope you’ll take a moment to learn about and support some of these incredible partners!
Suited for Change: Founded in 1992, this inspiring organization uses free professional apparel and career readiness education to prepare low-income women for new careers and new paths after histories of homelessness, abuse, incarceration, and trauma. Without fail, visiting Suited for Change’s welcoming boutique is a highlight for women enrolled in DC Central Kitchen’s Culinary Job Training program before they attend job interviews and begin their job searches. You can help Suited for Change serve a record number of DC-area women this year with a gift today!
AfriThrive: We love this Maryland-based nonprofit promoting food security, food sovereignty, and sustainable agriculture among African immigrant communities in our region. Help them provide nutritious, culturally relevant food as well as training opportunities with a gift today!
DC Food Project: This parent-led response to food insecurity among DC schoolchildren has grown impressively in the past four years. Now operating 50+ school-based food pantries in DC and Virginia and dozens of food-waste-fighting ‘share tables’ in school cafeterias, this dedicated crew will use your gift to provide healthy snacks and meal ingredients, during and outside of school hours, to kids and families facing food insecurity.
Dreaming Out Loud: Our in-house partner at the Klein Center, Dreaming Out Loud, is working to raise $10,000 to increase the delivery of fresh produce to participants of the WIC home delivery program while generating revenue for the low-resourced farmers in their farmer network. They are also opening a vital new grocery access point and hub for community engagement and entrepreneurship in Ward 8: Marion Barry Market.
Food Justice DMV: Since we first found one another during the pandemic, our groups have worked tirelessly to bring healthful, culturally relevant food in trustworthy, respectful ways to migrant families, refugees, and asylum seekers in our community. Your gift today will go directly to their needs for food, essential supplies, and last-mile deliveries to households across the DMV.
The Meditation Center @ THEARC: Our Culinary Job Training program relies on this dedicated partner and their evidence-based model of Transcendental Meditation. Gifts today will help them provide more DC community members with the tools and resources to cope with trauma and move forward in sustainable ways.
