DC Central Kitchen was honored to be recognized at the 40th Anniversary First Source Celebratory Conference with the Excellence Award. The DC Department of Employment Services (DOES) selected DC Central Kitchen for this award in light of our outstanding commitment to creating employment and hiring opportunities for local DC residents.
While many people associate us with food, job training and job creation are core to DC Central Kitchen’s mission. This recognition affirms our long-held belief that nonprofits are meaningful job creators too. The award is more proof that our work is far from simple charity; we are able to generate massive economic impact by living out our values and taking on the root cause of hunger: poverty. More than 300 individuals are currently employed by DCCK in the District at a living wage with industry leading benefits.
Chief Human Capital Officer Tee Okasi-Nwozo, Director of Human Resources Kay Grays, and Human Resources Specialist Tyesha Brooks accepted the award on behalf of the Kitchen. Their strategic efforts to shape hiring practices, job descriptions and requirements, promotional opportunities, and inclusive work environments made them the ideal representatives for DCCK at this historic celebration of local economic development policy and practice.
