May is a busy month for our Community Development and Partnerships team! As the weather warms up we’ll be hosting and participating in events across DC, promoting our programs and resources, ensuring our neighbors will know where they can find an affordable yet nutritious meal this summer.
Healthy Corners Events
We’re hosting weekly community pop-ups, in front of Healthy Corner Market locations to promote Healthy Corner products, programs and resources along with other strategic community partners. Healthy cooking demos are incorporated based on location.

In partnership with Department of Parks and Recreation we’ll be hosting healthy cooking demos and samples of fresh and locally farmed produce every Tuesday, from 11:00am-1:00pm at Kenilworth Recreation Center. These events are designed to improve nutritional literacy and demonstrate the best practices for preparing healthy meals.

Red Cross and DC Fire Department: Sound the Alarm
2425 Irving St SE – Engine 32
Saturday, May 7 | 9AM-2PM
Approximately 50 volunteers, from Red Cross and DCFD, will install smoke alarms in homes from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Red Cross submitted a request for DC Central Kitchen to provide breakfast and lunch, if possible. They also requested that we provide a resource table, for residents. The event begins at at 9 a.m. for registration and training.
Mayor Bowser’s 2022 Citywide Resource and Empowerment Expo
Entertainment and Sports Arena – 1100 Oak Dr SE

This community networking event offers a unique opportunity to highlight the many services available throughout DC while serving our mutual customers. The Expo’s continued development is now in its second year; community organizations provided resources to 713 registered families and over 200 walk-in participants in 2019.
