In 2021, our community continued to face the on-going challenges and disruptions of the pandemic, but thanks to you, DC Central Kitchen kept things moving along without ever losing sight of our values and unflinching focus on the root causes of hunger and poverty in our city.
A few ways we kept moving along:
We graduated our 2,000th Culinary Job Training (CJT) student and moved our CJT operations to Nationals Park and the Ronald Reagan Building before settling into our re-opened social enterprise café at THEARC.
Our Healthy School Food team served 480,000 locally sourced, scratch-cooked meals to students at 18 DC schools.
We served over 3 million meals and distributed 290,000 grocery bags to community members.
Our procurement team recovered 537,074 pounds of food waste and increased our investment in Black and Latinx local farmers.
We launched the campaign for our new 36,000 square foot headquarters, The Michael R. Klein Center for Jobs & Justice.
To show the full impact of your support, we created a video of our ‘big moves’ over the past year. Learn more about our work in FY21 with our latest Annual Report.
