DC Central Kitchen’s Healthy Corners program just reached its 15-year milestone, marking a decade and a half as a pioneering venture that is sustainably expanding healthy food access in DC neighborhoods.

A recent article from DC-area news outlet WTOP recounted the challenges of starting and maintaining the Healthy Corners program and the work that DC Central Kitchen continues to do to ensure DC community members can access fresh, healthy fruits and vegetables in their neighborhoods.

DC Central Kitchen’s Executive Vice President and Chief Development Officer, Alexander Moore, told WTOP that the program was initially built through “customer outreach, nutrition education, tasting demonstrations in small stores to get customers excited and confident in what they could find at these participating stores.” He went on to highlight the impact Healthy Corners has had in the District since then, citing the more than 27,000 SNAP customers served per year and the more than three million pounds of produce delivered to corner stores.

Healthy Corners acts as a model for cities across the country to fight hunger differently through innovative community partnerships and has been recognized on the national level for its creative approach to expanding access to healthy foods.

Thank you to WTOP for featuring DC Central Kitchen and Healthy Corners!
