DC Central Kitchen was thrilled to be honored at DC Defenders 2026 home opener. Our Buzzard Point neighbors invited us to Audi Field and selected us for their “Community Spotlight” recognizing important work serving the people of DC. The Spotlight allowed us to speak about our work on the field before supportive fans and on ESPN!
Receiving the honor (and a signed Defenders football!) on behalf of DCCK were Antonio White and Anye’ Queen. Both Antonio and Anye’ are graduates of DC Central Kitchen’s Culinary Job Training program. Antonio is the Manager of DC Central Kitchen Cafe at our headquarters just steps from Audi Field and now mentors people who have been incarcerated. Anye’ is our Guest Experience Manager and organizes 19,000 volunteers each year who help DC Central Kitchen prepare healthy meals for our community. Together, they have spent more than 15 years working to combat hunger and poverty in our city.
Following the Defenders’ 45-7 blowout victory over the Houston Gamblers, Antonio told us how it felt to be recognized at Audi Field. “Today meant so much to me. I kept crying tears of joy. I was on ESPN honored for being great and showing that change is possible.”
Thanks to the Defenders for recognizing Antonio, Anye’, and DC Central Kitchen!
