This Giving Tuesday, we’re all fighting hunger together

DC Central Kitchen volunteers

Too often, Giving Tuesday is filled with too many solicitations and not enough real answers. And this year, DC’s front-line nonprofits are facing unprecedented needs. Today, we want you to know how your generosity can change lives across our city and fuel partnerships that really work in our nation’s capital.

Hunger won’t be solved by can drives alone. But when you support any (or many!) of the groups below, your donation is making a measurable difference in fueling food security, improved health, and economic progress for our neighbors. We always appreciate your support of DC Central Kitchen—in fact, right now all gifts to us are being fully matched by a new emergency response challenge grant—but we arent alone in this fight. Take a moment to see how some of our most valued partners are facing DC’s rising rates of hunger and unemployment head-on and consider helping them out if you can:

AfriThrive – This inspiring organization supports African diaspora communities across our region through farming, healthy food distribution, nutrition education, and training.

DC Food Project – This creative, parent-led solution to childhood hunger is growing their school-based food pantry model in the face of record demand.

Dreaming Out Loud – This food justice social enterprise that shares space in our DC headquarters recently opened a new market and entrepreneurial hub in Ward 8 while providing critical support to disadvantaged farmers.

Food Justice DMV – This all-volunteer operation brings food and infant formula directly to some of our city’s most at-risk households and is working to serve a growing waitlist.

FoodRescue.US DC – Our go-to food recovery partners capture surplus food and seamlessly and safely bring it where it is most needed.

Franciscan Monastery Garden Guild – The FMGG produces tons of food every year, roughly 8,000 pounds annually, all harvested for free for food pantries and nonprofits like us throughout the DMV.

GOOD Projects – Our neighbors here in Southwest DC, GOOD Projects promotes the economic progress of youth and families through individualized coaching, nutrition and health programs, and childhood enrichment services.

The Meditation Center @ THEARC – A strategic partner of our training program, this organization teaches evidence-based Transcendental Meditation to our students as they work to overcome addiction and trauma.

My Seniors Keeper / Hustlaz 2 Harvesters – Led by returning citizens, this resourceful organization is using urban farming and solar power to bring healthy food (including meals from DCCK) and horizon-expanding education to their neighbors of all ages in Ward 7.

Suited for Change – This women-centered workforce development program provides the professional attire, skills training, and self-confidence women in difficult circumstances, including many of our culinary students, need to embark on new careers.

We Are Family – Sharing a punk rock ethos with DCCK, this devoted group is based in Columbia Heights and provides quality meals and connection to food insecure DC seniors.

On this critical Giving Tuesday, thank you for helping any of these front-line partners step up for DC.
