In the times when our community needs DC Central Kitchen the most, we tell ourselves two simple words: keep pushing. This is one of those times, and we need your help today.
DC’s unemployment rate, already one of the highest in country, has spiked in recent months. Nearly 40% of our city’s residents are food insecure. Farmers across our region have faced sudden market disruptions and need new, dependable outlets for their healthy, high-quality foods.
These are real challenges. But with your generosity, we can face them head-on. Today, we’re asking you to join DC Central Kitchen’s Produce Push, when all gifts are being fully matched up to $100,000!
If we’re going to serve more of our hungry neighbors, we need more of the fresh, healthy produce growing on farms in our region. With your help, we’ll buy $300,000 worth of fruits and vegetables from local farmers and bring these items to more than 350 shelters, schools, youth programs, small corner stores, and front doors of low-income senior citizens.
Between now and June 30, all gifts in support of our Produce Push will be doubled—up to $100,000! This matching challenge is made possible through the generous combined support of our long-time partners at CoBank, Rural America’s Cooperative Bank, and the Lineage Foundation for Good.
Sourcing fresh fruits and vegetables from local farms instead of letting them go to waste. Training and employing our culinary students so they can trade poverty and hardship for living wage jobs and lasting progress. Working 24 hours a day to bring nutritious food to even more children, seniors, veterans, and low-income shoppers in neighborhoods where healthy food is hard to find. That’s what our Produce Push can do. And that’s what you can make happen with a generous gift today.
