New Edition of “The Food Fighters: A History of DC Central Kitchen” is on Bookshelves Now

DC Central Kitchen
Join Us at the Klein Center for Jobs & Justice on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 for a Special Event with Author Alexander Justice Moore

Have you ever wondered, “How did DC Central Kitchen get its start?” Or, “What makes the Culinary Job Training program so successful?” Maybe, “What’s the deal with DC Central Kitchen and World Central Kitchen?” Even, “Did the old Adams Morgan dive bar Chief Ike’s Mambo Room turn out to be incredibly important to DC Central Kitchen’s emergence as a globally recognized social enterprise?” (The answer to that one, believe it or not, is yes.)

If so, the new book, The Food Fighters: A History of DC Central Kitchen, is one you won’t want to miss. Written by our former grant writing intern (and now Chief Development Officer) Alexander Justice Moore, The Food Fighters is the ultimate inside history of the people and ideas that made DC Central Kitchen what it is today. Building on the original 2014 version, this revised and expanded second edition of The Food Fighters includes photographs of many iconic moments and DC Central Kitchen heroes, as well as 200 pages of new insights, interviews, and inspiring accounts from the past ten years of fighting hunger and poverty in DC.

The Food Fighters is an ideal resource for graduate and undergraduate courses on social enterprise and nonprofit management, a helpful tool for anyone looking to learn more about nonprofits, volunteerism, philanthropy, and food justice, and our newest, most comprehensive resource for those hoping to learn from, adapt, or replicate our internationally acclaimed model and programs. (Seriously, please start with this book and then ask us for tours, consultations, and access to our materials…we promise it will be worth your time).

The book is available now in paperback, hardcover, and e-book formats via book publisher iUniverse, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and other resellers. Copies can also be purchased at DC Central Kitchen Cafe locations and an audiobook version will be released later this year. To learn more or book a talk from the author, email events@dccentralkitchen.org.

For those interested in meeting the author while supporting the Kitchen, please join us for a special evening at the Klein Center for Jobs and Justice (2121 First St SW, WDC) on Tuesday, August 13 at 5:30pm for The Food Fighters official launch party. Tickets are on sale now.
