Amerigroup DC Addresses Root Causes of Public Health Concerns with Meaningful Investment

Amerigroup DC presents DCCK CEO Mike Curtin with $80,000 donation for Culinary Job Training program.

For many juggling hard budget choices between buying food, paying the rent or seeking the healthcare they need, a trip to the grocery store at times takes priority over a doctor’s appointment, especially when an individual doesn’t have a stable job that offers a living wage.

We know that for our community to be healthy, we need to address the social determinants of health and ensure all our neighbors have what they need to thrive. That’s why partnerships like ours with DC Medicaid Managed Care Organization (MCO) Amerigroup DC are so important!

To help us provide top-quality case management and wraparound services, Amerigroup enrollees who participate in our Culinary Job Training program have access to Amerigroup’s FindHelp platform. The platform assists our training staff in providing referrals to vital services like housing, food, transit or cash assistance for utilities. And to help us train more job-seeking DC residents than ever before, Amerigroup DC has invested $80,000 in the expansion of our Culinary Job Training program. That’s what it means to serve our neighbors holistically!

Several leaders of the Amerigroup DC team joined us in the Kitchen last week as they rolled up their sleeves for a volunteer shift.

While our partnership is still very new, our organizations are already generating a meaningful impact for DC residents. WUSA9 recently featured our new partnership on air in a thoughtful piece you can watch here.
