DC Central Kitchen, in partnership with the District of Columbia Public Library (DCPL) is issuing a Request for Proposals from individual artist, designers, or art/design teams to create an unique piece of hanging artwork for Marianne’s Café in the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial (Central) Library at 901 G St. NW. Drawing on the history and mission of DC Central Kitchen, the artwork for this space should be a creative visual interpretation of our work to use food as a tool to strengthen bodies, empower minds, and build communities. Possible media for the works may include fabric, paper, found items, or other mixed media materials. After reviewing responses to the RFP, a review panel composed of DC Central Kitchen staff, DC Public Library staff, and stakeholders will select a small group of finalists on the basis of past work samples and a statement of artistic approach. The chosen finalists will then develop a proposal that includes all elements of the final artwork, including a mock-up of the artwork and project budget, for a modest stipend. Final designs will be submitted by Friday, March 5, 2021 and one artist will be approved as Contractor on or by Friday, March 26, 2021, to begin work thereafter. In collaboration with DC Central Kitchen and DCPL, the Contractor will oversee fabrication and installation of the artwork, to begin in April 2021 and be completed by June 2021. The completed piece will be the property of DC Central Kitchen.
