Since 1989, DCCK has worked to break the cycle of hunger and poverty in Washington, DC. In addition to serving more than 37 million meals, we have provided rigorous culinary training to help nearly 2,000 individuals launch careers. We’ve made many friends and partners in this effort to fight hunger differently in DC, and one of those partners is Monumental Sports and Entertainment (MSE).
“What’s so powerful about DCCK is they are tackling a problem in our neighborhoods in an innovative and fun way, for the benefit of our entire region. Their ethos of non-stop, bold and creative thinking on ways to serve the community so closely aligns with our own philosophy. It inspires our passion and excitement and we know our fans will want to support it as well,” said Anu Rangappa, Vice President of Social Impact for MSE.
MSE launched its Social Impact initiative in the fall of 2019 to harness all its resources and assets to shine its spotlight on one nonprofit each month, elevating that cause to ignite players, fans and MSE staff to give back to the community.
“We are honored to serve as Monumental Sports and Entertainment’s charity partner for the month of January, and hope to shine a spotlight on the many ways individuals can support our work year-round.” said DC Central Kitchen CEO Mike Curtin, Jr. “Our new DC Central Kitchen Cafe is changing lives through job training while offering healthy, locally-sourced, delicious food that’s available at our new Ward 8 location and across the city via our catering services. We’re thrilled to have partners like MSE helping us spread the word about how sports fans can make a difference in DC.”
In addition to calling on fans of the Capitals, Wizards, Mystics, and Go-Go to support the culinary students, MSE is also asking them to make monetary donations to DCCK and/or volunteer their time alongside MSE staff on “Monumental Mondays” at DCCK throughout January 2020. Individuals and groups can also support DC Central Kitchen by making catering orders; 100% of proceeds from catering support DC Central Kitchen’s work to fight hunger differently across the District.
