From June through August, DC Central Kitchen will partner with the District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department at Beat the Streets, a weekly community gathering that engages local residents and nonprofits to promote alternatives to violence and bring our communities together. The events offer music, games, food, and provide access to information and programs that help our neighbors succeed.
Each week throughout the summer, DC Central Kitchen will serve as the primary food service provider for Beat the Streets, serving free sack lunches and grilled items to attendees. Members of the DCCK team will be on-hand to recruit applicants for our Culinary Job Training program and offer nutrition education lessons for kids at our mobile urban garden, Truck Farm.
The seven events from June through August will be held in various neighborhoods throughout the District:
