DC Central Kitchen recovers food from a variety of resources to help prepare the thousands of meals we deliver to our community each day. In addition to our partnerships with farms, wholesalers, restaurants and grocery stores, DCCK has developed meaningful partnerships with corporate cafeterias from across DC, Maryland, and Virginia to recover large quantities of prepared food.
DCCK’s Procurement team has a partnership with Capital One’s corporate headquarters in McClean, Virginia. We pick up weekly donations of prepared food from Capital One’s corporate cafeteria, which helps decrease food waste while increasing the variety of food options we can offer our partner nonprofits. Since January, we have prevented the waste of almost 2,000 pounds of food from Capital One.
“We donate to DCCK because we believe in the act of giving back to the community,” says Ryan Wheeler, Executive Chef for Restaurant Associates, the food service provider for Capital One. “We have an opportunity to make a difference. The idea is when you have more, you give to those who do not. The world needs a bit more of that mindset.”
DC Central Kitchen is also a proud beneficiary of corporate investments from Capital One Foundation in support of our life-changing Culinary Job Training program.
