For the 16th year, the DC Jewish Community Center and DC Central Kitchen again partnered on Everything but the Turkey, an annual three-day service project in the days leading up to Thanksgiving.
Volunteers of all ages gathered at The Edlavitch JCC of Washington, DC (EDCJCC) to chop and prepare 13,000 servings of green beans, harvest bean salad, coleslaw, savory stuffing, and yams. DC Central Kitchen prepared the turkeys to complete the Thanksgiving spread, and the meals were distributed to nearly 88 homeless shelters, transitional housing facilities, and other DC nonprofits over the Thanksgiving holiday.
“Every year I am inspired by the hundreds of people in our community who come together to help share Thanksgiving with those experiencing hunger and homelessness in Washington,” said Carole Zawatsky, CEO of the EDCJCC. “Especially this year, during a season when many of us feel the country is divided, this is a chance to create unity and make a difference for those in need.”
