All donations will be doubled!
The scarcity of healthy, affordable food in lower-income neighborhoods of our city has contributed to a childhood obesity rate upwards of 40 percent.
With just three grocery stores in DC’s Wards 7 and 8, families often have to ride two or three buses to spend their limited resources on fresh, nutritious options – a stark contrast to the prosperous communities of Northwest DC, where there is an abundance of grocery options on nearly every block.
A coalition of our most committed supporters will double all donations received by December 1, up to $100,000. Will you please invest in our proven solutions today?
Here at DC Central Kitchen, we’re turning back the tide of hunger and childhood obesity. We offer a one-of-a-kind solution, bringing healthy, dignified food and nutrition education to 14 low-income schools, dozens of after-school and summer programs, and even corner stores. Our school meals have won national recognition for their creative use of fresh, local fruits and vegetables, and our efforts to teach schoolchildren about the healthy items on their tray have been proven to change their attitudes about what they eat. We even source our ingredients direct from local farmers and employ graduates of our Culinary Job Training program to serve these delicious meals. That’s a powerful recipe.
