Staff Management:
- Manage staff (coordinators and AmeriCorps positions) at all CKP's nationally staffed kitchens.
Including: Training in CKP and kitchen operations, CKP reporting requirements, ongoing financial and
statistical reporting and ongoing supervision.
- Work with coordinators to develop campus and community partnerships for CKP,
including food-resource partners, publicity partners, advocacy partners, community-based partners
and local funders.
- Lead local staff in creating and evaluating programmatic and operational goals to carry out local
and organizational vision.
- Maintain relationships with host schools and the CKP Coordinator's on-site university liaison.

- Facilitate communication between DCCK/CKP Development and coordinators on local funding opportunities,
research for and writing of grant proposals and development of local fundraising events.
- Maintain relationship with the Corporation for National and Community Service regarding AmeriCorps
direct service or VISTA positions.
- Report to the Corporation for National and Community Service on work of AmeriCorps direct service
or VISTA staff.
Nationally Staffed New Program Set-up:
- Work with potential Campus Kitchen host schools and the New Site Development Manager to facilitate
CKP expansion.
- Support new nationally staffed Campus Kitchens in developing initial partnerships with local
community; develop a staff training schedule and a new site implementation plan.
- Conduct follow up training visits to all new nationally staffed Campus Kitchens and arrange
kick-off events.
- Support local programs in establishing financial, in-kind and community partnerships to fit
the local program design.
- Develop and maintain relationships with host schools and the CKP Coordinator's on-site
university liaison
Program Management:
- Ensure safety at CKP staffed kitchens in day-to day programming, crisis management and core operations.
- Develop program component and materials, as well as speaker series and reporting requirements
for national educational programs; including the CKP Fellowship, network wide training calls and CKP Leadership Conference. This is a shared duty with the Affiliate Program Manager, but will be led by the National Programs Manager.
- Co-lead in the planning and implementation of annual CKP Boot Camp for new Campus Kitchen Coordinators.
- Supervise CKP data collection and documentation from nationally staffed and affiliate programs.
- Work with Communications Manager on consistent messaging from nationally staffed Campus Kitchens.
- Supervise CKP communications from local coordinators to program supporters (e.g. Fishbowl).
- Assist local coordinators in resource development by supporting local programs in establishing
financial, in-kind and community partnerships to fit program design.
- Grant research and writing as assigned to maintain CKP general operations or for special
projects at nationally staffed Campus Kitchens.
The following duties will be assigned by need:
- New Affiliate Program Set-up:
- Conduct training visits and kick-off events at affiliated Campus Kitchens.
- Work with Affiliate Program Manager to development and maintain relationships with affiliate coordinators and host school supervisory staff.
- Support local program in establishing financial, in-kind and community partnerships to fit local program design.
- Annual Affiliate Site Visits/Reporting:
- Schedule and Conduct annual site visit of affiliate Campus Kitchens including audit of kitchen operations and partner agency and community partner meetings.
- Assist Affiliate Program Manager with the collection and synthesizes reports from affiliate Campus Kitchens.

First Helping Outreach Specialist
General Description:
First Helping is a street-level outreach program sponsored by DC Central Kitchen. The program provides
homeless service to hundreds of clients throughout the Farragut area as well as Wards 7 and 8 that are
homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. By using food as a tool staff empower those in need to access
services that address the core reasons for their homelessness.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Facilitating and executing a street-side breakfast program:
- Outreach staff is responsible in the mornings for volunteers and breakfast services. Outreach staff
organizes volunteers so that they can man the breakfast service allowing for outreach staff to meet with
people in a familiar area connecting, explaining resources and checking-in while meeting the basic human
needs of survival materials and food. This time as most of the outreach worker’s day is spent exposed
in the elements on his/her feet and requires the ability to multitask and lift 50 lbs.
- Engaging in follow-up and related activities:
- First Helping is a referral based program that goes the extra mile to make sure that clients
get to appointments, get seen and connected and most importantly continue to get support and services
from agencies and programs they start to work with. Following up with clients, building strong
relationships with their case management teams and working to always stay up to date with new and/or
changed services is part of the an outreach workers responsibility. Additionally, outreach staff is
responsible for making sure that all daily contact sheets are completed and handed in while keeping
client files up to date. Daily communication through email and phone calls is also expected of
outreach staff in order to stay connected with each other and partners.
- Participating in coordination and management of the problems being addressed:
- While the development of relationships with clients, the community and other services providers
are an important part of the work, outreach staff is also responsible for engaging volunteers and
helping them to understand homelessness, harm reduction, and First Helping’s overall mission of service.
Built into our program are outlets that allow for staff to connect with other agencies through city wide
meetings and partnerings. First Helping is dedicated not only to the ground work for those who are
homeless but also advocating at a higher level through city hearings, serving on various outreach
groups and making sure that clients have general access. Outreach staff is also expected to keep up
monthly with blogging to help further educate the community regarding homeless issues and the work
of those in homeless services.
Other Qualifications:
- Experience with homelessness and experience working in low-income neighborhoods.
- An excellent outreach worker is able to see the big picture while balancing all of the
finite details of daily interactions with clients.
- Flexibility.
- Experience with substance abuse; certification desired.
- Experience with mental health issues desired.
- Possess excellent organizational and time-management skills; detail oriented.
- Possess basic computer literacy and writing skills.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to work with clients, staff and volunteers of diverse economic, ethnic, racial, sexual, and social backgrounds.
